Pity the poor company that was unfortunate to have purchased their peanuts from Sunland Industries.

As you know, Sunland’s Salmonella tainted peanuts, sold to virtually hundreds of manufacturers and made into thousands and thousands of products for humans and animals, prompted the largest recall in poor peanut’s history.

The massive recall of peanut products manufactured at Sunland began Sept. 24, 2012, and affected countless products in the human and animal food sectors. Other pet products linked to the recall include Yoghund Organic Banana & Peanut Butter frozen yogurt dog treats from TBD Brand, and jarred Dogsbutter, a peanut butter spread just for dogs from Dog for Dog.

On Tuesday, the latest pet food company to get snared in the peanut recall was a little company out of Oregon, Wildwood Seed & Specialties of MyParrotFood.com, that make the Sleek & Sassy brand nutritional diets for exotic birds and small pet animals which contain raw in-shell peanuts recalled by Sunland due to their potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

While the Sleek &Sassy products being recalled were primarily distributed in Washington and Oregon, it is possible that the products could have been sold online and delivered anywhere.

Following are the affected products of the Sleek & Sassy brand pet bird food for budgies, parakeets, canaries, finches, small hookbills, cockatiels, dove & quail, lovebirds, conures, lories, large hookbills, parrots, cockatoos and macaws and selected Sleek & Sassy brand small pet animal food products for gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rabbits and rats:

The original recall initiated by Sunland, on September 24, 2012, has since expanded a number basis since that time to include peanut butter and nut butter products product dating back to 2010.

An extension of the Sunland recall as a result of the ongoing FDA investigation led to the inclusion of raw and roasted shelled and in-shell peanuts.

As a result, Wildwood Seed & Specialties is recalling selected bird and small animal foods that contain raw in-shell peanuts from Sunland’s peanut processing plant.

The most current information regarding confirmed Salmonella illnesses due to infection associated with the Sunland’s recall is available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
