Nature’s Deli chicken jerky dog treats recalled for Salmonella contamination

Now, don’t get all excited – it’s not Chinese dog treats.

I wish.

Remember the bull penis dog treats recalled last week?

Who could forget.

This week, that very same company, Kasel Industries that recalled the bull penises (I just love saying that) a little over a week ago, is recalling another one of their treats today.

This new recall of jerky treats was launched after “routine sampling” by the Food and Drug Administration found Salmonella in the finished products.

I guess when Kasel got busted for the bull penises (how many times can say it?) they thought they might have a look-see and find out just what else they have that might also be contaminated with Salmonella.

Kasel Associated Industries of Denver has pulled its Nature’s Deli Chicken Jerky Dog Treats, which were distributed through 57 Sam’s Club stores in a dozen states: Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming

The Nature’s Deli Jerky dog treats are marked with the UPC bar code 647263800208. The recall includes lot number ‘Best by 091913’.

Consumers with questions may contact Kasel Associated Industries at (800) 218-4417 Monday thru Friday from 7am to 5pm MDT.

The upshot?

As I’ve said before, Salmonella can be a serious issue for you and your pet, most particularly for the very young, old, ill or immune compromised.

Save your packaging, as I always recommend, and if you suspect anyone in your family (and that includes family members covered in fur) to please save a sample for testing and call the doctor or the vet whichever the case may be.

Then, report the matter immediately to the FDA. You can report complaints about pet food and pet treats by calling the consumer complaint coordinator in your area or go to http://www.fda.gov/petfoodcomplaints.
