RECALL: Primal Pet Foods Issues Nationwide Recall

Primal Pet Foods that makes raw foods for cats and dogs is recalling one of its products because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The affected product is limited to the Primal Pet Foods Feline Chicken & Salmon Formula packaged in the following forms:

4 lb chicken & salmon nuggets (UPC# 8 95135 00025 0) with a “Best By” date code of 043112-17

No other Primal Pet Foods products are affected. No pet or human illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this lot code.

Unlike some companies, whose names I won’t mention here, Primal has the kind of recall notice that is informative and proactive. Anticipating consumer questions, they posted a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the recall on their website.

Remember that no matter what the pathogen, the most vulnerable populations (whether human or animal) are those that are immune compromised, elderly, ill or very young and should take special caution to avoid such unnecessary risks to their health.
