Primal Pet Foods announced yesterday a recall for nine of their freeze-dried cat and dog food poultry formulas due to the grind size exceeding the ideal size of ground bone fragments in their pet food.

Primal’s president said in a letter to consumers that their grinder was not calibrated properly and therefore it resulted bone fragments that were outside of their specifications. They wrote that the size of 1/8 per fragment they consider “the ideal size of ground bone to be fed to dogs and cats” and that recalled products “were ground at 1/4″ or 1/8″ deviation from our specification.”

In the letter to consumers, Primal tells consumers, “as these products do not meet our precise specifications, we are requesting that these specific products and lot codes be returned to the Primal retailer at which the product was originally purchased for full credit.   In the case whereby you are unable to return the product directly to the retailer, please contact our customer service team using the information below to process a product reimbursement.”
